In 20 years of dedicated service to our partner facilities, we have amassed a great deal of information and resources, which we hope to share with others. While the information contained on our website is only a small portion of what is available, we hope you find it of use. If you are searching for additional information, we hope you'll contact us with any questions or tell us how we can improve the information available.

ACUTE CARE, INC. Forms Educational Programs
  1. EMTALA, An Overview
A web-based PowerPoint presentation with RealAudio narration, this program offers the participant fundamental information pertaining to the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA). The program is accredited for one (Category 1) credit of Continuing Medical Education (CME). A web-based form including a pretest and registration precedes the slides and a post test and evaluation (also a web-based form) follows the program. This free program has been accessed over 250 times by participants from all over the world. Paul Hudson, Chief Operating Officer for ACUTE CARE, and the author/narrator for the program has presented the same material over one hundred times to medical staff gatherings and to facility staff at ACUTE CARE affiliated hospitals. http://www.acutecare.com/emtalacme.htm

  2. ACLS and PALS Renewal Provider Training
Mr. Hudson, Ms. Richards and Mrs. Weltha are all Regional Faculty members for Iowa Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). They all provide individual and group Provider renewal training in PALS and ACLS for affiliated physicians and facility staff. We are closely following the emergence of CD-ROM and web-based ACLS education (already on the market) and anticipate that the American Heart Association (AHA) will soon begin offering a CD-ROM PALS program. It is important to note that the Heart Association CD-ROM programs provide didactic training and testing but require a practical competency test by an AHA instructor.

  3. Rapid Sequence Intubation
Currently a work in progress, this comprehensive series of web-based PowerPoint presentations will provide basic and advanced training in the performance of Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI). Based on an Emergency Medicine "Guidemap" by Dr. Jeff Manning, this program includes detailed explanations of the process, its rationale and provides solutions for difficulties encountered in performance of the procedure. We are currently preparing the pretest/registration and post test/evaluation components of the program, but the three web-based PowerPoint presentations can be accessed at: http://www.acutecare.com/rapidsequenceintubationcme.htm.
It is anticipated that the series of presentations will be accorded four CME's

  4. Mandatory Reporter
This series of two web-based PowerPoint presentations is complete, but we are encountering difficulties in streaming the RealPresenter (a PowerPoint presentation played within the RealPlayer application) files. The series consists of PowerPoint slides and audio narration for Child Abuse and Dependent Adult Abuse presentations and has been approved by the State of Iowa. As we troubleshoot the process, we've made available the program on CD-ROM and accredited the program for two CME's.

  5. Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS)
Another work in progress, with a draft of the web-based PowerPoint presentation posted to http://www.acutecare.com/pacsdewitt.htm. Soon to follow: pretest / registration and post test / evaluation. The program will likely be accorded two CME. While the presentation is designed specifically for an affiliated hospital in DeWitt, Iowa and the Agfa web viewer, the information about this exciting emerging technology will be of interest to other healthcare providers as well.

  6. Pain Management in the Emergency Department
We have two programs in development on this important topic. Dr. Ken Schultheis, ACUTE CARE's former Chief Medical Officer, prepared and presented a one hour/one CME program on Pain Management in the ED at the request of an affiliated facility. Meanwhile, we have converted a presentation available from Purdue Pharma into a web-based program posted at www.lawfulprescribing.htm. We are in the process of developing the pretest/registration and post test/evaluation necessary to complete the CME activity. In addition, we have a collection of best practices from partnering facilities.

  7. CA-MRSA (Community Acquired Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus)
This PowerPoint presentation will define CA-MRSA; differentiate between Community Acquired and Healthcare Acquired MRSA; list three susceptible populations for CA-MRSA; and will describe clinical presentation, treatment and two prevention strategies specific to CA-MRSA. http://www.acutecare.com/education/camrsa

  8. Improving Patient Satisfaction in the Emergency Department
ACUTE CARE, INC. is committed to enhancing knowledge of the ED-specific patient satisfaction processes and implementation of a systematic approach to achieving affiliated facilities' goal of improved satisfaction and world class customer service in the Emergency Department. We believe that our affiliated physicians' active participation in efforts at improving patient satisfaction is essential if any plan is to succeed. To that end, we have developed a presentation pertaining to practical strategies for enhanced customer service that we believe can be easily integrated into an Emergency Department Physician's practice. This program is accredited for 1.0 CME. Click here to view this cme.
