American Heart Association InfoGuide
The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology have joined forces to offer Practice Guidelines formatted for the PalmOS devices (PalmPilot, Handspring Visor). The free service, provided through InfoGuide, includes Practice Guidelines for Management of Patients with Chronic Stable Angina, Practice Guidelines for Implantation of Cardiac Pacemeakers and Antiarrythmia Devices and (New) Pocket Guidelines for The Management of Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction. The InfoGuide software serves as its own viewer and the documents feature flow charts and bookmarked text. The service is available as a link from the Heart Association's site, or you can go direct by following this link.
Input Blood Gases (pH, pCO2, Na+, CL- and HCO3) and this handy, tiny (18K) program will provide analysis. FREE. Very nicely designed and useful. See also: ABG Decoder, below in RNpalm section.
While not medical per se, this program is useful in timing events that one might encounter in patient care. Cardiac arrest medication intervals spring to mind (ex. Atropine, Epinephrine). Four timers can run simultaneously.

Doser 4.0
This is a program that calculates mcg/kg/min mg/kg/hr, rate mcg/kg/hr mg/kg/min useful for calculating various drug infusions.
PICU 3.0
This is a program that calculates various drugs that are most commonly used in a pediatric I.C.U. It calculates reanimation intubation and vasoactive drugs by simply entering the weight of the patient.
RSI 1.0
RSI ( Rapid Sequence Intubation) is a program that Spiros developed for Medflight of Ohio. It calculates drugs used in their rapid sequence intubation protocol (adult & pediatric), just by entering the weight.
We've downloaded the demo version of this ED Charting software and it looks very promising. The Palm OS program leads the user from patient information, through chief complaint, and a customized examination that includes HPI and ROS. The chart automatically prints when you hot sync the Palm. They have aspirations for porting the same system to ER Nursing and Homecare.
PalmEMS is an EMS (Emergency Medical Services) guide for Palm handheld computers. It combines 650 medical acronyms, two dozen anatomical images, a dozen medical calculators (e.g., Apgar, Drug Dosage, Glasgow, Triage, Vitals, etc.), 100 emergency reference cards (e.g., chest pain, hypothermia, stroke, etc.), and a database of medicines. You can add, edit, delete, beam, search, and filter the records contained within PalmEMS.
Very impressive program. Reasonably
priced at $20.
We were particularly impressed with the
calculators.
EMS skills logging program. Log ACLS skills, intubations, IVs, medications administered, code info. Useful for tracking skills for recertification or personal records. Draw It screen for sketching scenes or patient info. Has table view and room for comments as needed.
