Iowa's Trauma System and ATLS A
Message From
The arrival of Iowa's Trauma System heralds an exciting new sophistication in the assessment, treatment and transport of those injured within Iowa. The Emergency Department physician will be a critical component within the system; guiding the prehospital response, leading the hospital-based care, and coordinating surgical intervention and transfer if necessary. With these important new responsibilities there comes a concurrent obligation to learn and abide by the standards of the system. Prominent among the obligations is a provision of the rules stating that current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) is required of all Emergency Department physicians. ACUTE CARE, INC. recognizes the importance of the trauma system's plan and the ED physician's essential role in that system. Having established education as a key priority within our organization, we now are marshalling these sophisticated resources to assist our partner hospitals and physicians to gain the requisite knowledge and skills. This portion of our web site is the nerve center of our ATLS initiative. You will find links to resources within our organization and on the World Wide Web. Our goal is to assist partner physicians in understanding Iowa's Trauma System and promoting successful completion of the Advanced Trauma Life Support course within the specified time frame outlined in the rules. To that end, we offer our diligent efforts, extensive experience, and willing assistance. The time constraint outlined in the rules and finite capacity of the classes have offered the Emergency Medicine community a significant challenge. ACUTE CARE, INC. stands ready to meet that challenge and put in place an educated and skilled physician component to assure the success of this worthy endeavor. Please feel free to e-mail me or telephone if you have any questions.
